Our Story
I created Blue Sky Advisory to support those interested in the global insurance industry. Having spent nearly 40 years as a banker and then as a reinsurer, I know that insurance is integral to our economy and our lives. With knowledge of the business across countries, products, and industry players we can give unique perspective. Having banked the industry for more than 2 decades we can also explain the business financials and increasingly the capital markets entrants competing with the traditional participants.
About
Alan Badanes, Managing Director
Originally from Cincinnati, Alan joined Chase Manhattan Bank's Global Credit Training Program in the 1980s. Assignments in the Middle East and Europe then followed, with a return to the US in 1987. Alan began to specialize in insurance in the late 1980s and following Hurricane Andrew, large amounts of capital were attracted to an industry going through significant dislocation. Moving back to Europe (London) in the early1990s, Alan experienced and participated in the dramatic changes occurring in the region including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the growth of the European Union, the introduction of the Euro. Lloyds, one of the oldest insurance markets on the planet also went through historic changes in 1994 with the introduction of corporate capital. At the same time, the UK Life industry demutualized and consolidated, and the major European multilines expanded globally, especially into the US. Upon the Chase/JPMorgan merger, Alan was asked to stay on running the EMEA Insurance Investment Banking team, based in London. Alan spent time with c suites and boards during all of this change including advice and financing of UK life transactions, privatizations in CEE, M&A around Lloyds vehicles, and financing of the largest private equity takeover of a broker at that time or since.
In 2005, Alan joined Swiss Re as a Managing Director advising the Executive Committee on strategic business development. Working in New York, London, and Zurich, Alan led a range of business activities including property/casualty and life/health segments, including new business origination. He recently retired from Swiss Re as a leader in Swiss Re's global Life & Health Division.
In total, Alan has lived overseas for almost 20 years, and has had a singular focus on insurance for nearly 40 years.
His diverse background across a wide range of property casualty, life and health, and broker segments as both a senior banker and reinsurance executive, in the US and overseas, provides unique insights to help your business.
